Description
Overview of the medicine
Maturex 30 mg Tablet is an antidepressant belonging to the class of Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs). It is primarily used to treat major depressive disorder and various anxiety disorders by helping to restore the balance of a certain natural substance (serotonin) in the brain.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose 10 mg once daily, may be increased to 30 mg after one week based on response and tolerability. Maximum recommended dose is 30 mg once daily.
Elderly
A lower initial dose (e.g., 5 mg once daily) and slower titration may be considered due to potentially reduced clearance. Maximum recommended dose 10-20 mg.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment is generally required for mild to moderate renal impairment. Caution is advised in severe renal impairment (CrCl < 30 mL/min).
How to Take
Take Maturex 30 mg Tablet orally once daily, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush, chew, or break it. For best results, take it at the same time each day.
Mechanism of Action
Maturex works by selectively inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin by presynaptic neurons in the central nervous system, thereby increasing the concentration of serotonin in the synaptic cleft. This enhanced serotonergic neurotransmission contributes to its antidepressant and anxiolytic effects.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Initial therapeutic effects may be observed within 2-4 weeks; full effects usually seen after 6-12 weeks.
Excretion
Excreted predominantly in the urine, with a small amount in feces.
Half life
Approximately 27-32 hours, allowing for once-daily dosing.
Absorption
Well absorbed orally, peak plasma concentrations typically achieved within 2-4 hours. Food does not significantly affect absorption.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily by CYP2C19 and CYP3A4, to inactive metabolites.

- •Concomitant use with Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of discontinuing an MAOI.
- •Concomitant use with pimozide.
- •Known QT interval prolongation or congenital long QT syndrome.
Drug Interactions
MAOIs
Serious, sometimes fatal, reactions can occur. Avoid concomitant use.
Pimozide
Contraindicated due to potential for QT prolongation.
NSAIDs, Warfarin
Increased risk of bleeding due to Maturex's effect on platelet aggregation.
Other Serotonergic Drugs (e.g., Triptans, Tramadol)
Increased risk of serotonin syndrome.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose include dizziness, tremor, nausea, vomiting, somnolence, tachycardia, and rarely seizures or serotonin syndrome. Management involves symptomatic and supportive care. Contact emergency medical services immediately.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Maturex should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It is excreted in human milk, so caution should be exercised when Maturex is administered to a nursing woman. Consult your doctor.
