Description
Overview of the medicine
Maxdol 10 mg Tablet contains Thiocolchicoside, a semi-synthetic derivative of colchicoside. It is used as a muscle relaxant to relieve painful muscle contractures associated with various musculoskeletal conditions.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
The usual recommended dose is 4 mg twice daily or 8 mg once daily. Maxdol 10 mg tablet should be taken as prescribed by the physician, typically once daily or as 5 mg twice daily depending on clinical assessment.
Elderly
Lower doses may be considered in elderly patients due to potential reduced renal or hepatic function. Close monitoring is advised.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution in patients with renal impairment. Dose adjustment may be necessary based on the degree of impairment.
How to Take
Maxdol tablet should be taken orally, with or without food. It can be taken with a glass of water.
Mechanism of Action
Thiocolchicoside acts as a muscle relaxant, primarily by selectively binding to GABA-A and glycinergic receptors, exhibiting agonistic properties on glycine receptors and antagonistic properties on GABA-A receptors. This central action leads to muscle relaxation and reduction of muscle tone.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Onset of action typically occurs within 30-60 minutes.
Excretion
Excreted mainly via urine, with a small portion excreted in feces.
Half life
The elimination half-life of the active metabolite (M2) is approximately 2.5 to 5 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration, with good bioavailability.
Metabolism
Undergoes extensive hepatic metabolism, primarily through glucuronidation, to form active (M2) and inactive metabolites.
