Description
Overview of the medicine
Minzin (Levocetirizine) is a non-sedating antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis (e.g., sneezing, runny nose) and chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives).
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
5 mg once daily, in the evening.
Elderly
No dose adjustment required unless renal function is impaired.
Renal_impairment
Dose adjustment required based on creatinine clearance (e.g., 2.5 mg every other day for moderate impairment).
How to Take
Oral, with or without food. Recommended to take in the evening.
Mechanism of Action
Levocetirizine, the R-enantiomer of cetirizine, is a potent and selective antagonist of peripheral H1-receptors. It inhibits histamine-induced effects by blocking the binding of histamine to H1 receptors.

Symptoms include drowsiness in adults and agitation/restlessness followed by drowsiness in children. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. There is no specific antidote.

Pregnancy Category B. Use only if clearly needed. Excreted in breast milk, so caution is advised during lactation.
