Description
Overview of the medicine
Mirabegron 25 mg tablet is a beta-3 adrenergic agonist used to treat symptoms of overactive bladder (OAB), such as urgent need to urinate, frequent urination, and inability to control urination.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose of 25 mg once daily, may be increased to 50 mg once daily based on efficacy and tolerability.
Elderly
No dose adjustment required for elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
Mild-to-moderate impairment: 25 mg once daily. Severe impairment: Not recommended.
How to Take
Take orally once daily with water, with or without food. Do not chew, crush, or break the tablet.
Mechanism of Action
Mirabegron activates beta-3 adrenergic receptors in the bladder, leading to relaxation of the detrusor muscle during the storage phase of the urinary bladder cycle, thereby increasing bladder capacity.

Onset
Clinical effects typically seen within 8 weeks, with some improvement within days.
Excretion
Renal (approximately 55%) and fecal (approximately 34%).
Half life
Approximately 32 hours.
Absorption
Peak plasma concentrations reached in 3.5 to 4 hours. Absolute bioavailability is 29% for 25 mg.
Metabolism
Metabolized by multiple pathways including N-dealkylation, O-dealkylation, glucuronidation, and amide hydrolysis, primarily by CYP3A4, CYP2D6, butyrylcholinesterase, and UGT.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Mirabegron or any excipients.
- •Uncontrolled severe hypertension (systolic blood pressure ≥ 180 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure ≥ 110 mmHg).
Drug Interactions
Warfarin
Monitor INR.
Metoprolol, Desipramine, Digoxin, Propafenone, Flecainide
Mirabegron is a moderate CYP2D6 inhibitor, may increase exposure of CYP2D6 substrates.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms may include palpitations and increased pulse rate. Treatment is supportive and symptomatic.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if potential benefit outweighs potential risk to fetus. Excreted in animal milk, unknown in human milk. Caution advised.
