Description
Overview of the medicine
Moxikem 0.5% Eye Drop contains Moxifloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, used to treat bacterial infections of the eye, such as bacterial conjunctivitis.

Instill one drop in the affected eye(s) 3 times a day for 7 days.
Elderly

How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Tilt your head back, pull down your lower eyelid to create a pouch, and instill one drop into the pouch. Close your eye gently for a few moments. Do not touch the dropper tip to your eye or any other surface.
Mechanism of Action
Moxifloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, leading to bacterial cell death.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Rapid onset of antibacterial action, typically within hours.
Excretion
Mainly through feces and urine for systemically absorbed drug; ocular drug is cleared locally.
Half life
Ocular half-life is short, requiring frequent dosing. Systemic elimination half-life is approximately 13 hours.
Absorption
Following topical ocular administration, moxifloxacin is absorbed into the ocular tissues. Systemic absorption is minimal.
Metabolism
Minimal metabolism occurs in ocular tissues. Systemically absorbed drug is primarily metabolized in the liver.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to moxifloxacin, other quinolones, or any component of the medication.
Drug Interactions
Other topical ophthalmic medications
If more than one topical ophthalmic medication is being used, they should be administered at least 5 minutes apart.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Protect from light. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
An ocular overdose is unlikely to cause systemic toxicity due to the limited absorption. In case of accidental ingestion or excessive ocular instillation, flush the eye with lukewarm water.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Exercise caution when administered to a nursing mother.
