Mupiron

For topical use only. Apply a thin layer to the affected area. Wash hands before and after applying the ointment, unless hands are the treated area. The treated area may be covered with gauze if desired.

Mupirocin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by reversibly binding to bacterial isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase, an enzyme essential for the synthesis of bacterial proteins.

• Hypersensitivity to mupirocin or polyethylene glycol
• Not for ophthalmic or intranasal use (unless specifically nasal formulation)

Store below 25-30°C. Do not freeze. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.

Overdose with topical application is unlikely due to minimal systemic absorption. Ingestion of the ointment may lead to gastrointestinal upset. Symptomatic and supportive treatment should be initiated.

Pregnancy Category B. Studies in animals have shown no evidence of harm to the fetus, but there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. It is not known whether mupirocin is excreted in human milk; use with caution in nursing mothers.
