Description
Overview of the medicine
N-Sol-5 is an ophthalmic solution containing 5% Sodium Chloride, used to relieve corneal edema by drawing out excess fluid from the cornea. It helps reduce swelling and improve visual clarity.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill 1 or 2 drops in the affected eye(s) every 3 or 4 hours, or as directed by a physician.
Elderly
Same as adult dosage. No specific dose adjustment needed for elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
Not applicable for topical ophthalmic use with minimal systemic absorption.
How to Take
Wash hands thoroughly before use. Tilt head back, pull down the lower eyelid to form a pouch. Hold the dropper directly over the eye and instill the prescribed number of drops. Do not touch the dropper tip to the eye or any other surface to avoid contamination. Close the eye gently for 1-2 minutes. Replace the cap tightly after use. If using other eye medications, wait at least 5 minutes between applications.
Mechanism of Action
Sodium Chloride 5% creates an osmotic gradient across the corneal membrane, causing water to be drawn from the edematous cornea into the hypertonic tear film, thereby reducing corneal swelling and improving vision.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within minutes of application.
Excretion
Primarily cleared from the ocular surface via tear flow and blinking. Minimal systemic excretion if any absorption occurs.
Half life
Not applicable for a topical ophthalmic agent with minimal systemic absorption.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption expected due to topical ophthalmic application. Action is primarily local.
Metabolism
Not significantly metabolized due to minimal systemic absorption.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Sodium Chloride or any excipients of the formulation.
- •Not to be used with soft contact lenses due to potential damage or discomfort and interference with the drug's action.
Drug Interactions
Other Ophthalmic Preparations
If using other eye drops or ointments, administer them at least 5 minutes apart to prevent dilution or altered absorption.
Storage
Store at room temperature (15°C - 30°C). Protect from light and moisture. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Overdose with ophthalmic solutions is highly unlikely. If accidental ingestion occurs, it may cause mild gastrointestinal upset. In such cases, consult a physician or poison control center.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. N-Sol-5 is generally considered safe for topical ophthalmic use due to minimal systemic absorption, but caution is advised.
