Description
Overview of the medicine
Namitol 200 mg Tablet contains Paracetamol, a widely used analgesic and antipyretic. It is primarily used for the relief of mild to moderate pain and to reduce fever.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Typically 500-1000 mg every 4-6 hours, not exceeding 4000 mg (4g) in 24 hours. For 200mg, 2-4 tablets every 4-6 hours.
Elderly
Same as adult dose, but caution with liver/renal impairment. Consult a doctor.
Renal_impairment
Dose adjustment may be necessary for severe renal impairment; consult a physician.
How to Take
Oral administration. Tablets should be swallowed with water, with or without food.
Mechanism of Action
Paracetamol's exact mechanism is not fully understood, but it is believed to act primarily by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system (CNS), leading to its analgesic and antipyretic effects. It has minimal anti-inflammatory effect.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
30-60 minutes
Excretion
Mainly excreted in the urine as glucuronide and sulfate conjugates. Less than 5% is excreted unchanged.
Half life
1-4 hours (typically 2-3 hours)
Absorption
Rapidly and almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, with peak plasma concentrations occurring within 30-60 minutes.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver via glucuronidation and sulfation pathways. A small amount is metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes to a toxic intermediate, NAPQI, which is normally detoxified by glutathione.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to paracetamol or any component of the formulation
- Severe hepatic impairment or active liver disease
Drug Interactions
Alcohol

Warfarin
May enhance the anticoagulant effect of warfarin, increasing the risk of bleeding, especially with prolonged use or high doses.
Certain anticonvulsants (e.g., carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin)
May increase the risk of paracetamol-induced hepatotoxicity.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and liver damage (which may be delayed for 24-48 hours). Seek immediate medical attention. Treatment involves gastric lavage, activated charcoal, and N-acetylcysteine (NAC) as an antidote.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Considered generally safe for use during pregnancy and lactation when used at recommended doses. Consult a doctor before use.
