Napxon (Naproxen) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for pain relief, fever reduction, and to reduce inflammation. It is effective in treating conditions like arthritis, muscle aches, and menstrual pain.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Typically 250-500 mg twice daily, or 750-1000 mg once daily for sustained-release formulations. Max 1000 mg/day (acute), 1500 mg/day (short-term for acute pain).
Elderly
Lower doses may be required due to increased risk of adverse effects, generally not exceeding 750 mg/day.
Renal_impairment
Adjust dosage; avoid in severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <30 mL/min).
How to Take
Take with food or milk to reduce gastrointestinal upset. Swallow whole with a glass of water; do not crush or chew sustained-release tablets.
Mechanism of Action
Inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, leading to decreased prostaglandin synthesis. Prostaglandins are involved in pain, inflammation, and fever.

Overdose

Pregnancy & Lactation
Avoid during the third trimester of pregnancy due to risk of premature closure of the fetal ductus arteriosus. Use with caution during first and second trimesters, only if potential benefit outweighs risk. Excreted in breast milk, use with caution during lactation.
