Description
Overview of the medicine
Neusangel 40 mg Capsule contains Esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to reduce stomach acid production. It is prescribed for the treatment of various acid-related conditions like gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers, and conditions involving excessive stomach acid.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For GERD: 40 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. For H. pylori eradication: 40 mg once daily in combination with antibiotics. For Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: Initial dose of 40 mg twice daily, adjusted as needed.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is generally required, but caution is advised in elderly patients with severe hepatic impairment.
Renal_impairment
No dose adjustment is necessary for patients with impaired renal function.
How to Take
Take the capsule whole, at least one hour before a meal, usually in the morning. Do not chew or crush the capsule.
Mechanism of Action
Esomeprazole works by irreversibly binding to and inhibiting the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme (the proton pump) in the gastric parietal cells. This action blocks the final step of gastric acid secretion, significantly reducing stomach acid levels.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Acid secretion inhibition begins within 1 hour.
Excretion
Excreted primarily as metabolites in the urine (approximately 80%) and feces (approximately 20%).
Half life
Approximately 1-1.5 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration. Bioavailability increases with repeated dosing.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized in the liver by the cytochrome P450 system (CYP2C19 and CYP3A4 enzymes).
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to esomeprazole, substituted benzimidazoles, or any component of the formulation.
- Concomitant use with nelfinavir (an antiretroviral drug).

Storage
Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C, away from direct light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
