Description
Overview of the medicine
Nobokin 200 mg Tablet is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Usually 200-400 mg once daily, depending on the severity and type of infection. Duration of treatment varies from 5 to 14 days.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is required based solely on age, but renal function should be assessed, and dose adjusted if needed.
Renal_impairment
Dosage adjustment is necessary in patients with creatinine clearance less than 50 mL/min. Consult prescribing information for specific guidelines.
How to Take
Take orally with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew.
Mechanism of Action
Nobokin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, essential enzymes for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, leading to bacterial cell death.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 1-2 hours for antibacterial action.
Excretion
Primarily excreted unchanged by the kidneys (renal excretion).
Half life
Approximately 6-8 hours, allowing for once or twice daily dosing.
Absorption
Rapidly and well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations are usually reached within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Minimally metabolized in the liver.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Nobokin or other fluoroquinolones
- History of tendon disorders related to fluoroquinolone administration
- Epilepsy or other seizure disorders
Drug Interactions
Warfarin
May enhance the anticoagulant effect of warfarin, increasing the risk of bleeding. Monitor INR carefully.
NSAIDs (Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs)
Concomitant use may increase the risk of CNS stimulation and convulsive seizures.
Antacids containing aluminum or magnesium, sucralfate, iron or zinc supplements
May decrease the absorption of Nobokin. Administer Nobokin at least 2 hours before or 6 hours after these agents.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In case of overdose, symptomatic and supportive treatment should be initiated. Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered. Hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis is not effective in removing fluoroquinolones.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Nobokin is generally not recommended during pregnancy and lactation due to potential risks to the fetus/infant (e.g., cartilage damage). Use only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk.
