Overview of the medicine
Novotril 0.5 mg Tablet is used to treat anxiety disorders and panic disorder. It works by affecting brain chemicals that may be unbalanced in people with anxiety.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose 0.25-0.5 mg, three times daily. May be increased up to a maximum of 4 mg daily in divided doses.
Elderly
Initial dose 0.25 mg, two or three times daily. Use with caution due to increased sensitivity and slower metabolism.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution. Dosage adjustments may be necessary based on individual patient response.
How to Take
Take orally with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
Mechanism of Action
It enhances the effect of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a neurotransmitter that inhibits brain activity, leading to a calming effect on the central nervous system.

Symptoms include somnolence, confusion, impaired coordination, diminished reflexes, and coma. Management is symptomatic and supportive; flumazenil may be used as an antidote, but with caution due to the risk of seizures.

Should be avoided during pregnancy as it may cause fetal harm. Not recommended for use during lactation as it is excreted in breast milk and may cause sedation in the infant.
