Description
Overview of the medicine
Desloratadine is a non-drowsy antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy or watery eyes, and hives. It is a long-acting selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Usually 5 mg orally once daily. For severe cases or specific conditions, 10 mg once daily may be prescribed by a physician.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is usually required for elderly patients with normal renal function. Use with caution in those with renal or hepatic impairment.
Renal_impairment
Dosage adjustment may be necessary. For severe renal impairment, consider 5 mg every other day.
How to Take
Take orally with or without food. Do not crush or chew the tablet; swallow whole.
Mechanism of Action
Desloratadine is a long-acting tricyclic antihistamine with selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist activity. It inhibits histamine release from mast cells and basophils, and also inhibits a variety of pro-inflammatory mediators.

Pregnancy Category C. Use only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus. Desloratadine is excreted into breast milk; use with caution during lactation.
