Description
Overview of the medicine
Ocutob-03 Eye Drop contains Tobramycin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic, used for the topical treatment of external bacterial infections of the eye and its adnexa.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For mild to moderate infections, one or two drops into the affected eye(s) every 4 hours. For severe infections, two drops into the affected eye(s) hourly until improvement, then reduce frequency.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment required for elderly patients.
Renal_impairment

How to Take
For topical ocular use only. Tilt head back, pull down lower eyelid to form a pocket, instil drops, close eye gently, and apply pressure to the corner of the eye near the nose for a minute to reduce systemic absorption.
Mechanism of Action
Tobramycin exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis through binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Clinical improvement often seen within 1-2 days.
Excretion
Primarily renal excretion (if systemically absorbed).
Half life
Not well-defined for ophthalmic topical use due to minimal systemic absorption; systemic half-life for IV tobramycin is 2-3 hours.
Absorption
Systemic absorption is minimal following topical ocular administration.
Metabolism
Not extensively metabolized; primarily excreted unchanged.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Tobramycin or any component of the formulation.
- Hypersensitivity to other aminoglycosides.
Drug Interactions
Other ophthalmic preparations
If using more than one ophthalmic product, administer them at least 5 minutes apart.
Storage
Store at room temperature (below 30°C). Protect from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Topical ocular overdose is unlikely to produce systemic toxicity due to minimal absorption. Rinse eye with lukewarm water if excessive drops are applied.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Animal reproduction studies have not demonstrated a fetal risk but there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Use only if clearly needed. Excretion into breast milk is unknown, use with caution.
