For bacterial conjunctivitis: Instill 1-2 drops into the affected eye(s) every 2 to 4 hours for the first two days, then 1-2 drops four times daily. For bacterial keratitis/corneal ulcer: Instill 1-2 drops into the affected eye(s) every 30 minutes for the first two days, then 1-2 drops hourly for the next five to seven days, and then 1-2 drops four times daily until clinical cure.

Renal_impairment

How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Tilt your head back, pull down your lower eyelid to form a pouch, and instill the prescribed number of drops. Avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye or any other surface to prevent contamination. Close your eye gently for 1-2 minutes.
Mechanism of Action
Ofloxacin works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, essential enzymes involved in bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, leading to bacterial cell death.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Rapid onset of action, typically within minutes of instillation.
Excretion
Systemically absorbed portion is primarily excreted renally (via urine).
Half life
Systemic half-life is approximately 4-6 hours, but local half-life in ocular tissues varies.
Absorption
Limited systemic absorption following ophthalmic administration, with peak plasma concentrations generally below detectable levels.
Metabolism
Minimal systemic metabolism occurs.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to ofloxacin, other quinolones, or any component of the formulation.
Drug Interactions
Topical Ophthalmic Medications
Concurrent use with other topical ophthalmic medications may require proper spacing (e.g., 5-10 minutes between applications) to avoid washout.
Storage
Store below 25°C. Protect from light. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Overdose is unlikely with ophthalmic administration. If accidentally swallowed, supportive care should be administered.
