Overview of the medicine
Opsophenicol 0.5% Eye Drop is an ophthalmic antibacterial agent used to treat bacterial infections of the eye, such as conjunctivitis and keratitis. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill 1-2 drops into the affected eye(s) 3-4 times daily, or as directed by a physician. Treatment usually lasts for 5-7 days.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment required for elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
Not applicable for topical ophthalmic use due to minimal systemic absorption.
How to Take
Wash hands thoroughly before use. Tilt head back, pull down the lower eyelid to form a pouch, and instill the prescribed number of drops. Close eyes gently for a few moments. Avoid touching the dropper tip to the eye or any other surface.
Mechanism of Action
Opsophenicol acts by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, primarily by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit and preventing peptide bond formation, thereby exerting a bacteriostatic effect.
