Description
Overview of the medicine
OPT-07 Eye Drop is an ophthalmic solution containing Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium. It is used to relieve dry, irritated eyes by providing lubrication and protecting the eyes from further irritation. It helps in maintaining moisture on the surface of the eye.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill 1 or 2 drops in the affected eye(s) as needed.
Elderly
Same as adult dosage.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment required.
How to Take
For ocular use only. Tilt head back, pull down the lower eyelid, and instill drops into the conjunctival sac. Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface.
Mechanism of Action
Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium works as an artificial tear. It increases the viscosity of the tear film, thereby enhancing its lubricating effect and prolonging the tear film breakup time. It provides a protective layer over the ocular surface.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Immediate relief upon administration.
Excretion
Primarily eliminated via tear drainage. Minimal systemic excretion.
Half life
Not applicable systemically; local effects last for several hours.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption after ocular administration. Primarily acts locally on the ocular surface.
Metabolism
Not systemically metabolized. Broken down by local enzymes on the ocular surface.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation
Drug Interactions
Other Ophthalmic Solutions
Allow at least 5 minutes between administering different ophthalmic medications to avoid wash-out effect.
Storage
Store at room temperature (below 30°C). Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Systemic overdose is unlikely due to ocular administration and minimal absorption. If excessive drops are instilled, simply blot excess liquid from the eye.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Generally considered safe due to minimal systemic absorption. Consult a physician if pregnant or breastfeeding.
