Description
Overview of the medicine
Otoxin-03-1 Ear Drop is a combination medication containing Ciprofloxacin, a broad-spectrum antibiotic, and Dexamethasone, a potent corticosteroid. It is used to treat bacterial ear infections associated with inflammation.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
4 drops into the affected ear twice daily for 7 days.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment required, use adult dosage.
Renal_impairment
No dose adjustment necessary due to minimal systemic absorption.
How to Take
Clean the ear canal. Tilt the head to the side, instill the drops, and keep the head tilted for a few minutes. Do not touch the dropper tip to the ear or any other surface.
Mechanism of Action
Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, leading to bacterial cell death. Dexamethasone is a glucocorticoid that suppresses inflammation by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators and reducing capillary permeability.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Relief of symptoms typically within 2-3 days.
Excretion
Not applicable for topical otic use, primarily local effect.
Half life
Not well-defined for topical otic application due to minimal systemic absorption.
Absorption
Systemic absorption after otic administration is minimal. Ciprofloxacin may be absorbed locally to some extent in inflamed tissues. Dexamethasone systemic absorption is also very low.
Metabolism
Minimal systemic metabolism due to negligible absorption.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin, dexamethasone, or any component of the formulation.
- •Viral (e.g., herpes simplex), fungal, or mycobacterial infections of the ear.
- •Perforated eardrum, unless specifically directed by a doctor.
Drug Interactions
Systemic Medications
No significant systemic drug interactions reported with topical otic use due to minimal systemic absorption.

Store at room temperature (below 30°C). Protect from light and moisture. Do not freeze.
Overdose
Overdose is unlikely with topical otic administration due to minimal systemic absorption. If accidental ingestion occurs, seek medical advice.
