Oxecylin 250 mg Capsule contains oxytetracycline, a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
250-500 mg every 6-12 hours, depending on the severity of infection.
Elderly
Dosage adjustment may be necessary in elderly patients with impaired renal function.
Renal_impairment
Dosage reduction is required in patients with severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Take capsules with a full glass of water, preferably on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after meals). Avoid taking with dairy products, antacids, or iron preparations.
Mechanism of Action
Oxytetracycline inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, preventing the attachment of aminoacyl tRNA to the acceptor site on the mRNA-ribosome complex.

Category D in pregnancy (risk to fetus, permanent tooth discoloration, bone growth inhibition). Not recommended during breastfeeding (excreted in milk, potential for tooth discoloration and bone growth effects in infant).
