Description
Overview of the medicine
Oxydrop-005 Nasal Drop contains Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride, a topical decongestant used to relieve nasal congestion due to colds, sinusitis, hay fever, and other upper respiratory allergies. It works by constricting blood vessels in the nasal passages.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Adults and children 6 years of age and over: 2-3 drops in each nostril, not more often than every 10-12 hours. Do not exceed 2 doses in 24 hours. Use for no more than 3 consecutive days.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment required; use as per adult dosage.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment required for topical nasal application.
How to Take
Clear the nasal passages by gently blowing your nose before use. Tilt your head slightly backward and apply the prescribed number of drops into each nostril. Keep your head tilted for a few seconds to allow the drops to spread. Avoid touching the dropper tip to the nose to prevent contamination. Wash hands after use.
Mechanism of Action
Oxymetazoline is a direct-acting sympathomimetic amine. It stimulates alpha-adrenergic receptors in the arterioles of the nasal mucosa, producing vasoconstriction and reducing blood flow, which in turn decreases swelling and opens nasal passages.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within minutes (typically 5-10 minutes).
Excretion
Excreted in urine, mainly unchanged if systemically absorbed.
Half life
Systemic half-life not precisely defined for topical use, but local effects last up to 12 hours.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption occurs from the nasal mucosa, but local absorption is significant for therapeutic effect.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver if systemically absorbed.
