Description
Overview of the medicine
Palotic-025 mg Injection is a broad-spectrum antibiotic indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections. It belongs to a new class of beta-lactam antibiotics and is administered intravenously.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
0.25 mg intravenously every 8 hours, adjusted based on infection severity.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment required unless significant renal impairment is present.
Renal_impairment
Dose adjustment needed for CrCl < 30 mL/min: 0.125 mg every 12-24 hours.
How to Take
Administer slowly by intravenous infusion over 30 to 60 minutes. Do not administer as a rapid bolus.
Mechanism of Action
Palotic works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and bacterial death. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) in susceptible bacteria, thereby disrupting peptidoglycan synthesis.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 30 minutes of administration.
Excretion
Mainly via renal excretion (glomerular filtration and tubular secretion).
Half life
Approximately 2-3 hours.
Absorption
Rapid and complete absorption following intravenous administration.
Metabolism
Minimal hepatic metabolism; primarily excreted unchanged.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Palotic or other beta-lactam antibiotics.
- History of severe allergic reaction to cephalosporins or penicillins.
Drug Interactions
Probenecid
May increase Palotic plasma concentrations by decreasing renal tubular secretion.
Anticoagulants (e.g., Warfarin)
May enhance anticoagulant effects; monitor INR closely.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light. Reconstituted solution should be used immediately.
Overdose
In case of overdose, discontinue Palotic and institute supportive treatment. Hemodialysis may be useful in reducing plasma concentrations.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Use only if clearly needed. Excreted in breast milk in small amounts; use with caution.
