Paracetamol 500 mg tablet is a commonly used medication for pain relief and fever reduction. It belongs to a class of drugs called analgesics and antipyretics.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
500 mg to 1000 mg every 4-6 hours as needed. Maximum 4000 mg in 24 hours.
Elderly
Same as adults, but may require lower doses in debilitated or renally impaired elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
Dosage adjustment may be necessary in severe renal impairment (CrCl < 10 mL/min). Interval extension to 6-8 hours.
How to Take
Oral administration with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water.
Mechanism of Action
Paracetamol's exact mechanism is not fully understood but is thought to involve inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis, primarily in the central nervous system (CNS), reducing pain and fever. It has weak anti-inflammatory effects.

Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, pallor, and sweating. Severe overdose can lead to hepatic necrosis. Treatment involves gastric lavage, activated charcoal, and administration of N-acetylcysteine (NAC).
