Description
Overview of the medicine
Perosa is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and lower fever. It works by blocking the production of certain natural substances in the body that cause inflammation.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Oral: 50 mg two to three times daily, or as directed by a physician. Max 150 mg/day.
Elderly
Lower doses may be required due to increased sensitivity and potential for renal impairment. Consult a physician.
Renal_impairment
Dose adjustment necessary; monitor renal function closely. Avoid in severe renal failure.
How to Take
Take orally, preferably with food or milk to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Do not crush or chew tablets.
Mechanism of Action
Perosa inhibits the activity of cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzymes, which are responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are key mediators of pain, inflammation, and fever.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
30-60 minutes for analgesia.
Excretion
Mainly excreted by the kidneys (urine), with a smaller portion excreted in the feces.
Half life
Approximately 2-4 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly and well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract following oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver via cytochrome P450 enzymes.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to perosa or other NSAIDs (e.g., aspirin allergy)
- Active gastrointestinal bleeding or peptic ulcer
- Severe renal or hepatic impairment
- Third trimester of pregnancy
- Severe heart failure
Drug Interactions
Corticosteroids
Increased risk of gastrointestinal ulceration and bleeding.
Lithium/Methotrexate
Increased plasma levels of lithium and methotrexate, leading to toxicity.
ACE inhibitors/Diuretics
Reduced antihypertensive and diuretic effects; increased risk of renal impairment.
Anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin)
Increased risk of bleeding.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, lethargy, drowsiness, and gastrointestinal bleeding. Management involves symptomatic and supportive treatment. Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered within an hour of ingestion.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: Avoid in the third trimester due to potential fetal cardiovascular effects. Use with caution in the first and second trimesters only if clearly needed. Lactation: Not recommended during breastfeeding as it may pass into breast milk and potentially harm the infant.

Extensive clinical trials have demonstrated Perosa's efficacy and safety in pain management and inflammation reduction across various patient populations. Post-marketing surveillance continues to monitor its long-term effects.
Lab Monitoring
- Monitor renal function (creatinine, BUN) periodically, especially in long-term use or in elderly patients.
- Monitor liver function tests (ALT, AST) periodically.
- Complete Blood Count (CBC) to check for anemia or other blood dyscrasias.
Doctor Notes
- Advise patients about potential GI and cardiovascular risks.
- Consider lowest effective dose for shortest duration.
- Monitor renal function in elderly or patients with pre-existing conditions.
