Description
Overview of the medicine
Polytamin Syrup is a comprehensive multivitamin and multimineral preparation designed to prevent and treat vitamin and mineral deficiencies. It supports overall health, growth, and boosts immunity.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
1-2 teaspoonfuls (5-10 ml) daily, or as directed by a physician.
Elderly
Same as adult dosage, or as advised by a physician.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution. Consult a physician before use.
How to Take
To be taken orally, with or without food. Can be mixed with water or fruit juice if preferred.
Mechanism of Action
Provides essential micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) that act as coenzymes and cofactors in various metabolic processes, cellular functions, and tissue repair in the body.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Gradual, as deficiencies are corrected over time.
Excretion
Water-soluble vitamins are primarily excreted renally; fat-soluble vitamins and some minerals are excreted via bile or feces.
Half life
Highly variable depending on the specific vitamin or mineral (water-soluble vs. fat-soluble).
Absorption
Varies for individual vitamins and minerals, generally well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.
Metabolism
Water-soluble vitamins are generally not extensively metabolized; fat-soluble vitamins undergo various metabolic pathways.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to any component of the syrup
- Conditions of hypervitaminosis (especially with fat-soluble vitamins)
Drug Interactions
Levothyroxine
Iron can interfere with the absorption of thyroid hormones. Take at separate times.
Tetracyclines & Quinolones
Iron and calcium may decrease the absorption of these antibiotics. Administer several hours apart.
Anticoagulants (e.g., Warfarin)
High doses of Vitamin K can reduce the effect of anticoagulants; however, standard multivitamin doses typically do not pose a significant risk.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Do not freeze.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include gastrointestinal upset. Prolonged excessive intake of certain fat-soluble vitamins (A, D) or minerals (Iron, Zinc) can lead to toxicity. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. Discontinue use and consult a physician.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Generally considered safe and often recommended to meet increased nutritional needs during pregnancy and lactation. However, always consult a physician before use.
