Description
Overview of the medicine
Predicot-005 Eye Drop is an ophthalmic corticosteroid formulation containing Prednisolone Acetate 0.5%. It is used to treat inflammation of the eye caused by certain conditions.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill 1-2 drops into the conjunctival sac 2-4 times daily. During the initial 24 to 48 hours, the dosage may be increased to 2 drops every hour. Gradually taper dosage as inflammation subsides.
Elderly
No special dosage adjustment is generally required for elderly patients, but caution should be exercised due to potential increased susceptibility to side effects.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment is necessary for renal impairment as systemic absorption is minimal.
How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Shake the bottle well before each use. Tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid to form a pouch, and instill the prescribed number of drops. Close your eye gently for a few seconds. Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface.
Mechanism of Action
Prednisolone Acetate works by inhibiting the release of various inflammatory mediators, reducing capillary dilation, leukocyte migration, and overall inflammatory response in the eye. It suppresses the immune response.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within hours of administration, peak effect within 24 hours.
Excretion
Systemically absorbed portion excreted primarily via urine as metabolites.
Half life
Local half-life in ocular tissues, systemic half-life of prednisolone is about 2-4 hours.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption after ocular administration. Primarily local action.
Metabolism
Locally metabolized in ocular tissues, any systemically absorbed portion is metabolized in the liver.

Overdose
