Lab Monitoring

• Serum magnesium levels (especially with prolonged use or co-administration with diuretics)
• Chromogranin A (CgA) levels (can interfere with neuroendocrine tumor diagnosis, discontinue PPIs at least 14 days before CgA measurement)
• Vitamin B12 levels (with prolonged use)

Doctor Notes

• Consider using the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary to achieve therapeutic goals.
• Counsel patients on potential long-term risks associated with PPI use, particularly bone fractures and C. difficile infections.
• Periodically review the need for continued PPI therapy, as many patients may not require indefinite treatment.

Patient Guidelines

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
• Do not stop taking abruptly without consulting your doctor.
• Inform your doctor about all other medications, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements, you are taking.
• Report any new or worsening symptoms to your doctor.

Missed Dose Advice

If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered. If it's almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume the regular schedule. Do not double dose.

Driving Precautions

Omeprazole may cause dizziness or visual disturbances in some patients. If you experience these effects, avoid driving or operating machinery.

• Avoid spicy, fatty, and acidic foods that can trigger symptoms.
• Avoid alcohol and smoking, as they can irritate the stomach lining.
• Eat smaller, more frequent meals instead of large ones.
• Elevate the head of your bed to reduce nighttime reflux.
