Overview of the medicine
Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor used to treat conditions involving excessive stomach acid, such as GERD, peptic ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
GERD: 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks. Peptic Ulcer: 20 mg once daily for 4-6 weeks. H. pylori eradication: 20 mg twice daily with antibiotics.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustment is usually required, but caution is advised in very elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment is required for patients with renal impairment.
How to Take
Take orally, usually before a meal. Swallow the capsule whole with water; do not chew or crush it.
Mechanism of Action
It works by blocking the H+/K+-ATPase (proton pump) in the gastric parietal cells, thereby reducing the secretion of gastric acid.
