Description
Overview of the medicine
Rapimix 30/70 Injection is a premixed insulin product containing 30% rapid-acting insulin aspart and 70% intermediate-acting protamine-crystallized insulin aspart. It is used to improve glycemic control in adults and children with diabetes mellitus.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Individualized. Typically administered subcutaneously twice daily before morning and evening meals. Dose adjusted based on blood glucose levels and physician's guidance.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustments required, but monitor blood glucose closely and adjust dose cautiously due to potential for impaired renal function.
Renal_impairment
Dose reduction may be required. Frequent glucose monitoring is essential.
How to Take
Administer subcutaneously in the abdominal wall, thigh, upper arm, or gluteal region. Rotate injection sites to prevent lipodystrophy. Do not administer intravenously.
Mechanism of Action
Insulin aspart lowers blood glucose by stimulating peripheral glucose uptake, especially by skeletal muscle and fat, and by inhibiting hepatic glucose production. It inhibits lipolysis and proteolysis, and enhances protein synthesis.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
10-20 minutes
Excretion
Primarily renal excretion.
Half life
Variable, depends on dose and individual. Effective half-life is typically a few hours for the rapid component, longer for the intermediate.
Absorption
Rapid absorption of soluble insulin aspart; delayed and prolonged absorption of protamine-crystallized insulin aspart.
Metabolism
Metabolized by insulin-degrading enzymes (insulinases) in the liver and kidney.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to insulin aspart or any of the excipients.
- •Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
Drug Interactions
Beta-blockers
May mask symptoms of hypoglycemia.
Corticosteroids
May increase insulin requirements.
Oral Hypoglycemics
Increased risk of hypoglycemia.
Storage
Store unopened in a refrigerator (2°C - 8°C). Do not freeze. Protect from light. Once opened, store at room temperature (below 30°C) for up to 4 weeks.
Overdose
Severe hypoglycemia may occur. Mild hypoglycemia can be treated with oral glucose. Severe hypoglycemia requires parenteral glucose or glucagon, followed by close monitoring.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Consult a doctor. Insulin requirements may change during pregnancy and lactation. Close monitoring is essential.
