Description
Overview of the medicine
Rashnil (Desloratadine) is a long-acting tricyclic antihistamine with selective H1-receptor antagonist activity. It is indicated for the symptomatic relief of seasonal allergic rhinitis, perennial allergic rhinitis, and chronic idiopathic urticaria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Adults and adolescents 12 years and over: 5 mg (one tablet) once daily.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment is generally required for elderly patients, but caution is advised in cases of severe renal or hepatic impairment.
Renal_impairment
For patients with severe renal impairment, a starting dose of 5 mg every other day is recommended.
How to Take
Oral administration, with or without food.
Mechanism of Action
Desloratadine is a selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist. It inhibits the release of histamine from mast cells and blocks the binding of histamine to H1 receptors, thereby alleviating allergic symptoms such as sneezing, rhinorrhea, nasal itching, and ocular itching. It also has anti-inflammatory properties.

Onset
Onset of action within 1 hour.
Excretion
Eliminated primarily via urine and feces as metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 27 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration. Peak plasma concentrations (Cmax) are reached approximately 3 hours after dosing.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized to 3-hydroxydesloratadine, an active metabolite.

- Hypersensitivity to desloratadine, loratadine, or any component of the formulation.
Drug Interactions
Cimetidine
Increases plasma concentration of desloratadine (not clinically significant).
Erythromycin
Increases plasma concentration of desloratadine (not clinically significant).
Ketoconazole
Increases plasma concentration of desloratadine (not clinically significant).

Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
In the event of an overdose, symptomatic and supportive treatment is recommended. Desloratadine is not eliminated by hemodialysis.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Desloratadine is excreted into breast milk; therefore, a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug.
