Description
Overview of the medicine
Reclevus 50 mg tablet contains Reclecoxib, a selective COX-2 inhibitor used to relieve pain, inflammation, and stiffness caused by conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For osteoarthritis, 50 mg once daily. For rheumatoid arthritis, 50 mg twice daily. For acute pain, 50 mg as needed, not exceeding 100 mg per day.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is required, but use with caution due to increased risk of adverse effects.
Renal_impairment
Mild to moderate impairment: No dose adjustment. Severe impairment: Not recommended.
How to Take
Take orally with or without food. Swallowing the tablet whole with a glass of water is recommended.
Mechanism of Action
Reclecoxib selectively inhibits cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), an enzyme responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are mediators of pain, inflammation, and fever. By inhibiting COX-2, Reclecoxib reduces prostaglandin production, thereby alleviating symptoms.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Pain relief typically begins within 1 hour, with full therapeutic effect within 1-2 days.
Excretion
Excreted primarily via urine and feces, with less than 1% as unchanged drug.
Half life
Approximately 8-12 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, reaching peak plasma concentrations within 2-3 hours after oral administration.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver by cytochrome P450 enzymes (e.g., CYP2C9).

Furosemide
May reduce natriuretic effect.
Methotrexate
May increase plasma methotrexate concentrations, enhancing toxicity.
Diuretics and ACE inhibitors
May reduce the natriuretic and antihypertensive effects. Monitor blood pressure and renal function.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms may include lethargy, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, and epigastric pain. Gastrointestinal bleeding can occur. Supportive care and symptomatic treatment are recommended. No specific antidote is available.
