Description
Overview of the medicine
Reducid 40 mg Suspension contains Esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor used to reduce acid production in the stomach. It is prescribed for conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
For most conditions, 40 mg once daily. For Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, initial dose 40 mg twice daily, adjusted as needed.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment generally required based on age alone, but monitor for renal/hepatic impairment.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment required.
How to Take
Take the suspension at least one hour before a meal. Shake well before use. Do not chew or crush.
Mechanism of Action
Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that specifically inhibits the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme system (the proton pump) at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cell. This action blocks the final step in acid production, leading to a sustained decrease in gastric acid secretion.
