Description
Overview of the medicine
Relise 100 mg Tablet is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used for the relief of pain and inflammation associated with various musculoskeletal conditions, arthritis, and acute injuries. It works by reducing the production of prostaglandins in the body.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
The usual recommended dose is 100 mg once daily. Max 100 mg/day.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is generally required, but caution should be exercised due to increased risk of side effects. Consider lower effective dose.
Renal_impairment
In patients with mild to moderate renal impairment, no dose adjustment is necessary. However, Relise is not recommended for patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance < 30 mL/min).
How to Take
Relise 100 mg Tablet should be taken orally, preferably with food or milk, to minimize gastrointestinal discomfort. Do not chew or crush the tablet; swallow it whole with a glass of water.
Mechanism of Action
Myofenac, a potent NSAID, inhibits the activity of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, primarily COX-2, which are responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are mediators of inflammation, pain, and fever. By inhibiting their synthesis, Myofenac reduces these symptoms.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 30-60 minutes.
Excretion
Mainly excreted via urine (approximately 60%) and feces (approximately 40%) as metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 6-8 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, with peak plasma concentrations achieved within 1-2 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized in the liver via cytochrome P450 enzymes.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Myofenac or other NSAIDs (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen)
- •Active gastrointestinal bleeding or peptic ulcer
- •Severe heart failure (NYHA Class II-IV)
- •Severe renal or hepatic impairment
- •Third trimester of pregnancy
Drug Interactions
Lithium
May increase plasma lithium levels.
Methotrexate
May increase methotrexate toxicity.
Diuretics and ACE inhibitors
May reduce the antihypertensive effect and increase the risk of renal impairment.
Warfarin and other anticoagulants
Increased risk of bleeding.
SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors)
Increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, gastrointestinal bleeding, and rarely, acute renal failure, respiratory depression, and coma. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive, including gastric lavage or activated charcoal if ingestion is recent. Monitor renal function and electrolyte balance.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Relise is contraindicated in the third trimester of pregnancy due to the risk of premature closure of the ductus arteriosus and fetal renal dysfunction. In the first and second trimesters, it should be used only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It is not recommended during breastfeeding as NSAIDs can be excreted in breast milk.
