Description
Overview of the medicine
Remacid-Plus 200 mg Chewable Tablet is an antacid and anti-flatulent medication used to relieve symptoms of heartburn, indigestion, sour stomach, and gas. It contains a combination of Aluminium Hydroxide, Magnesium Hydroxide, and Simethicone.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
2-4 chewable tablets (depending on strength), 4 times daily, 20 minutes to 1 hour after meals and at bedtime, or as directed by physician.
Elderly
Same as adult dose, but caution advised for those with renal impairment.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution; avoid high doses or prolonged use due to risk of aluminum and magnesium accumulation.
How to Take
Chew tablets thoroughly before swallowing. Do not swallow whole. Take after meals and at bedtime for best results.
Mechanism of Action
Aluminium Hydroxide and Magnesium Hydroxide neutralize stomach acid. Magnesium Hydroxide also has a laxative effect, counteracting the constipating effect of Aluminium Hydroxide. Simethicone acts as an anti-foaming agent, breaking down gas bubbles in the digestive tract.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 5-15 minutes (for acid neutralization), within 30 minutes (for gas relief).
Excretion
Unabsorbed portions are excreted in feces. Small absorbed amounts of aluminum and magnesium are excreted renally.
Half life
Not directly applicable for locally acting antacids; systemic absorption is minimal.
Absorption
Antacids are minimally absorbed systemically. Aluminium and Magnesium are absorbed to a small extent, with most remaining in the GI tract to exert local effect. Simethicone is not absorbed.
Metabolism
Not significantly metabolized systemically.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Severe renal impairment
- •Hypersensitivity to any component
- •Hypophosphatemia (for aluminum-containing antacids)
