Description
Overview of the medicine
Reskin-07-005-Ointment is a combination topical medication containing a moderate strength corticosteroid (Hydrocortisone) and an antibiotic (Fusidic Acid). It is used to treat inflammatory skin conditions like eczema and dermatitis where secondary bacterial infection is present or likely to occur.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a thin film to the affected skin area 2-3 times daily, or as directed by a physician. Treatment duration should generally not exceed 2 weeks.
Elderly
No specific dosage adjustments required; use with caution due to thinner skin.
Renal_impairment
Topical application results in minimal systemic absorption; therefore, renal impairment is unlikely to necessitate dosage adjustments. Use with caution.
How to Take
For external use only. Wash and dry the affected area. Apply a thin layer of ointment gently to cover the entire affected area. Wash hands thoroughly before and after application. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and other mucous membranes.
Mechanism of Action
Hydrocortisone acts as a corticosteroid, suppressing inflammation, itching, and redness by inducing phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins, thereby controlling the biosynthesis of potent mediators of inflammation such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Fusidic Acid is an antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by interfering with the translocation of the elongation factor G, primarily effective against Gram-positive bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects typically begin within a few days of consistent application.
Excretion
Metabolites of both components are primarily excreted via the kidneys and bile.
Half life
Not precisely determined for topical application due to minimal systemic absorption; systemic corticosteroids have varying half-lives.
Absorption
Hydrocortisone is absorbed to some extent through the skin, especially with prolonged use, occlusive dressings, or application to large areas. Fusidic Acid has minimal systemic absorption when applied topically.
Metabolism
Absorbed Hydrocortisone is primarily metabolized in the liver to inactive metabolites. Fusidic Acid is also metabolized in the liver.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to hydrocortisone, fusidic acid, or any excipients
- Skin conditions caused by fungi, viruses (e.g., herpes, chickenpox), or parasites
- Rosacea
- Perioral dermatitis
- Ulcerative skin lesions
- Acne vulgaris
Drug Interactions
Immunosuppressants
Systemic absorption of corticosteroids can have additive immunosuppressive effects, though unlikely with topical use.
Other Topical Corticosteroids
Avoid concomitant use as it may increase the risk of systemic absorption and side effects.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Overdose is unlikely with appropriate topical use. Prolonged or excessive application, especially over large areas or under occlusive dressings, may lead to systemic corticosteroid effects such as adrenal suppression. In case of suspected systemic overdose, symptomatic treatment and discontinuation of the product are recommended.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use with caution during pregnancy and lactation. Consult a doctor. Avoid applying to large areas of skin or for prolonged periods. The potential benefits should outweigh the potential risks.

Clinical Trials
Clinical trials have demonstrated the efficacy of topical corticosteroids combined with fusidic acid in reducing inflammation and eradicating bacterial infections in various dermatological conditions.
Lab Monitoring
- Not typically required for short-term, topical use. For extensive or prolonged use, monitoring for systemic corticosteroid effects (e.g., adrenal function tests) may be considered.
Doctor Notes
- Advise patients to use sparingly and for the shortest effective duration.
- Regularly review the patient's condition to assess treatment efficacy and potential side effects.
- Educate patients on proper application technique and warning signs of adverse reactions.
Patient Guidelines
- Use only as directed by your doctor.
- Do not use for longer than the prescribed duration, typically not more than 2 weeks.
- Avoid applying to the face, groin, or armpits unless specifically instructed by your doctor.
- Do not cover the treated area with bandages or other occlusive dressings unless advised by a doctor.
Missed Dose Advice
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Driving Precautions
Reskin-07-005-Ointment is for topical use and is not expected to affect the ability to drive or operate machinery.
Lifestyle Advice
- Keep the affected skin area clean and dry.
- Avoid harsh soaps, detergents, and other irritants that may worsen the skin condition.
- Wear loose-fitting clothing to prevent irritation.
