Description
Overview of the medicine
Romfen-S 007 Eye Drop contains Bromfenac Sodium, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat inflammation and pain associated with cataract surgery.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
One drop to the affected eye(s) twice daily starting 24 hours after surgery and continuing for 2 weeks.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment necessary.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment guidance, as systemic absorption is minimal.
How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Tilt head back, pull down lower eyelid to create a pouch, and instill the drop. Close eye gently. Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface.
Mechanism of Action
Bromfenac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by inhibiting the activity of cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzymes. This inhibition prevents the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are mediators of inflammation, pain, and fever, thereby reducing ocular inflammation and pain.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 1-2 hours for pain relief.
Excretion
Excreted primarily via the urine as metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 1.5 hours in aqueous humor.
Absorption
Well absorbed into ocular tissues after topical administration. Systemic absorption is minimal.
Metabolism
Primarily metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes (mainly CYP2C9) in the liver and ocular tissues.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Bromfenac or any components of the formulation.
- Patients with a history of allergic reactions to NSAIDs (e.g., aspirin-induced asthma).
Drug Interactions
Topical Corticosteroids
May increase the risk of corneal healing complications.
Anticoagulants (e.g., Warfarin)
Systemic absorption is minimal, but theoretical risk of increased bleeding tendency with other drugs affecting coagulation.
Storage
Store at room temperature (15°C to 30°C). Do not refrigerate or freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Overdose from ophthalmic administration is unlikely due to the small amount of drug and minimal systemic absorption. If accidentally ingested, symptomatic and supportive measures should be taken.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy should be avoided in the third trimester due to potential premature closure of the fetal ductus arteriosus. Use with caution during earlier pregnancy and lactation; consult a doctor.
