Overview of the medicine
Rupenta 10 mg Tablet contains Rupatadine, a second-generation, non-sedating antihistamine. It is used to relieve symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis and urticaria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
10 mg once daily
Elderly
No dose adjustment usually required. Use with caution in elderly patients due to potential decreased renal/hepatic function.
Renal_impairment
Use with caution, data is limited. Not recommended for patients with severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Oral administration. Can be taken with or without food.
Mechanism of Action
Rupatadine is a long-acting, non-sedating H1-histamine receptor antagonist. It also has platelet-activating factor (PAF) antagonist activity. It blocks the effects of histamine, thereby reducing allergic symptoms.

Mainly via feces (60.9%) and urine (34.6%) as metabolites.

Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration. Tmax is approx. 0.75-1 hour. Food increases systemic exposure.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized by CYP3A4 in the liver to active and inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients
Drug Interactions
Grapefruit juice
Should be avoided as it can increase rupatadine levels.
CNS depressants (e.g., alcohol)
May potentiate the effects of alcohol or other CNS depressants.
Ketoconazole, Erythromycin, Itraconazole
Increased systemic exposure to rupatadine due to CYP3A4 inhibition.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms may include drowsiness, headache, and palpitations. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered if recent.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Limited data on use in pregnant women. As a precautionary measure, it is preferable to avoid the use of Rupatadine during pregnancy and lactation. Consult a doctor.
