Overview of the medicine
Scabin-25-w-emulsion contains Benzyl Benzoate 25% w/v, used for the topical treatment of scabies and pediculosis.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a thin layer over the entire body from the neck down, avoiding the face and scalp. Leave on for 24 hours, then wash off. Repeat application after 7 days if necessary.
Elderly
Same as adult dosage, but use with caution due to thinner skin.
Renal_impairment
No specific dose adjustment required for topical application.
How to Take
For external use only. Apply to clean, dry skin. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes. Wash hands thoroughly after application. For children, dilute 1 part emulsion with 1 part water before application.
Mechanism of Action
Benzyl Benzoate acts as a neurotoxin on arthropods, causing excitation and subsequent paralysis and death of the mites and lice. It also has a solvent action on the chitinous exoskeleton of the mites.
