Description
Overview of the medicine
Sedron (Cetirizine) is a second-generation antihistamine used to relieve symptoms of allergies such as hay fever, conjunctivitis, and urticaria.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
10 mg once daily or 5 mg twice daily.
Elderly
Usually 5 mg once daily, adjust for renal impairment.
Renal_impairment
Moderate impairment: 5 mg once daily. Severe impairment: 5 mg every other day.
How to Take
Oral administration, with or without food.
Mechanism of Action
Cetirizine is a potent and selective antagonist of peripheral H1-receptors. It inhibits the early phase of histamine-mediated allergic reaction and also reduces the migration of inflammatory cells.

Excretion
Primarily excreted unchanged in the urine, with a small amount excreted in feces.

Approximately 8-11 hours in adults
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed after oral administration, peak plasma concentration reached within 1 hour.

Minimally metabolized in the liver, primarily excreted unchanged.

Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to cetirizine, hydroxyzine, or any piperazine derivative
- Severe renal impairment (CrCl < 10 ml/min)

Slight decrease in cetirizine clearance
CNS depressants (alcohol, sedatives)
Increased drowsiness

Store below 30°C, protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms: Drowsiness, agitation, tachycardia. Management: Symptomatic and supportive treatment, no specific antidote. Gastric lavage may be considered.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category B. Use with caution during lactation as it is excreted in breast milk.
