Adults

Not typically recommended for adults in this specific suspension strength; adult formulations are usually 500 mg or 1 g capsules/tablets. Consult a physician for appropriate adult dosage.

Elderly

Dosage adjustment may be required if renal function is impaired. Monitor renal function regularly.

Children

For children, the usual dose is 30 mg/kg/day administered in two divided doses (every 12 hours). For Sefrad-DS 250 mg suspension, this means approximately 5-10 ml (250-500 mg) twice daily depending on weight and age.

Renal_impairment

Reduced dosage based on creatinine clearance. For CrCl 50-25 ml/min: 500 mg every 12 hours. For CrCl 25-10 ml/min: 500 mg every 24 hours. For CrCl <10 ml/min: 500 mg every 36 hours. (These are general guidelines, consult prescribing information).

Onset

Peak plasma concentrations are achieved within 1 to 2 hours after oral administration.

Excretion

Excreted primarily by the kidneys via glomerular filtration and tubular secretion. Approximately 90% is excreted unchanged in the urine within 24 hours.

Half life

Approximately 1.5 to 2 hours in adults with normal renal function.

Absorption

Rapidly and almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, even in the presence of food.

Metabolism

Minimally metabolized; primarily excreted as unchanged drug.

Probenecid

May decrease renal tubular secretion of cefadroxil, resulting in increased and prolonged plasma concentrations of cefadroxil.

Aminoglycosides

Potential for increased nephrotoxicity when co-administered.

Oral Anticoagulants (e.g., Warfarin)

Increased anticoagulant effect, requiring close monitoring of INR.
