Silatrol 10 mg Tablet is an antidepressant medication belonging to the Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) class, primarily used to treat major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and panic disorder.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose 10 mg once daily, may be increased to a maximum of 20 mg daily after 1-2 weeks based on response.
Elderly
Starting dose 5 mg once daily, maximum recommended dose 10 mg daily.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment needed for mild to moderate impairment. Use with caution in severe impairment.
How to Take
Take Silatrol 10 mg Tablet orally once daily, with or without food. It is recommended to take it at the same time each day.
Mechanism of Action
Silatrol selectively inhibits the reuptake of serotonin (5-HT) by neurons in the central nervous system. This increases the concentration of serotonin in the synaptic cleft, thereby enhancing serotonergic neurotransmission and alleviating symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Onset
Initial antidepressant effects may be seen within 1-2 weeks, full therapeutic effects in 4-6 weeks.
Excretion
Excreted mainly through urine and feces as metabolites.

Approximately 20-24 hours.

Well absorbed orally, with peak plasma concentrations reached within 4-6 hours.

Extensively metabolized in the liver, primarily by CYP2C19 and CYP3A4 enzymes.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Silatrol or any excipients
- Concomitant use with Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of discontinuing an MAOI
- Concomitant use with pimozide
Drug Interactions
MAOIs
Risk of serotonin syndrome. Avoid concomitant use.
NSAIDs
May increase risk of gastrointestinal bleeding.
Warfarin
May increase the risk of bleeding. Monitor INR.
Other serotonergic drugs (e.g., triptans, tramadol)
Increased risk of serotonin syndrome.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include dizziness, tremor, somnolence, nausea, vomiting, tachycardia, and rarely, seizures or coma. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. Maintain an open airway, monitor cardiac rhythm and vital signs. Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered soon after ingestion.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy Category C. Use only if potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Silatrol is excreted in breast milk; therefore, caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing mother. Consult your doctor.
