Description
Overview of the medicine
Silodosin is a selective alpha-1A adrenergic receptor antagonist used for treating the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
8 mg once daily with a meal. For renal impairment (CrCl 30-50 mL/min), 4 mg once daily.
Elderly
No specific adjustment needed, but monitor renal function.
Renal_impairment
CrCl 30-50 mL/min: 4 mg once daily. CrCl < 30 mL/min: Contraindicated.
How to Take
Take orally once daily with a meal. Do not crush or chew.
Mechanism of Action
Selectively blocks alpha-1A adrenergic receptors in the prostate, bladder base, and prostatic capsule, leading to relaxation of smooth muscle in these tissues and improving urine flow.

Primarily excreted in urine (33.5%) and feces (54.9%).

Approximately 11-13 hours (parent compound and active metabolite).

Side Effects
Contraindications
- Severe renal impairment (CrCl < 30 mL/min)
- Severe hepatic impairment
- Concomitant use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors
- Hypersensitivity to silodosin
