Silver sulfadiazine is a topical antibacterial drug used on second- and third-degree burns. It kills a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and is fungicidal.

Mechanism of Action
Silver sulfadiazine acts on the cell membrane and cell wall to produce its bactericidal effects. Silver slowly released from the cream acts upon the bacterial cell wall and cell membrane, disrupting them. Sulfadiazine interferes with bacterial folic acid synthesis.
