Description
Overview of the medicine
Skisia-25-25-cream is a topical antifungal and corticosteroid combination cream used to treat various skin conditions characterized by fungal infections accompanied by inflammation and itching.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Apply a thin layer to the affected skin area twice daily, in the morning and evening, for 2-4 weeks. Do not use for more than 4 weeks without medical advice.
Elderly
Same as adult dosage. Use with caution due to thinner skin.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment required for topical application.
How to Take
For external use only. Wash and dry the affected area thoroughly before application. Apply a thin layer and gently rub in until absorbed. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
Mechanism of Action
Miconazole nitrate inhibits ergosterol synthesis, a vital component of fungal cell membranes, leading to increased permeability and cell death. Hydrocortisone is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation, itching, and redness by suppressing the immune response.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Relief from itching and inflammation often within a few days; complete resolution of fungal infection may take weeks.
Excretion
Excreted via urine and feces if significant systemic absorption occurs.
Half life
Systemic half-life not clinically relevant for topical use. Local tissue half-life varies.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption through intact skin. Absorption increases with inflammation, skin damage, or occlusive dressings.
Metabolism
Systemically absorbed components are metabolized by the liver (hydrocortisone, miconazole) to inactive metabolites.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to miconazole, hydrocortisone, or any component of the cream.
- Viral infections of the skin (e.g., herpes simplex, varicella).
- Tuberculosis of the skin.
- Perioral dermatitis, acne, rosacea.
Drug Interactions
Warfarin (oral anticoagulants)
Very rarely, high systemic absorption of miconazole from topical preparations has been reported to potentiate the effect of warfarin, increasing bleeding risk. Monitor INR if used extensively.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Overdose from topical application is unlikely. Excessive use of corticosteroids can lead to local side effects (skin atrophy) or, rarely, systemic effects (Cushing's syndrome, adrenal suppression).
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy and lactation only if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk. Avoid application to large areas or for prolonged periods. Consult a doctor before use.
