Description
Overview of the medicine
Solurin 10 mg Tablet contains Solifenacin Succinate, an anticholinergic medication used to treat symptoms of overactive bladder, such as urinary urgency, frequency, and incontinence.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Initial dose is 5 mg once daily, which may be increased to 10 mg once daily based on efficacy and tolerability.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is required, but caution is advised.
Renal_impairment
For severe renal impairment (CrCl < 30 mL/min), do not exceed 5 mg once daily.
How to Take
Swallow the tablet whole with water. It can be taken with or without food.
Mechanism of Action
Solifenacin is a competitive muscarinic receptor antagonist. It works by blocking muscarinic receptors (primarily M3 subtype) in the bladder, thereby reducing involuntary contractions of the detrusor muscle and increasing bladder capacity.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Initial effects within hours, full effect within a few weeks.
Excretion
Primarily excreted in urine (approximately 69%), with a smaller portion in feces (approximately 23%).
Half life
Approximately 45-68 hours.
Absorption
Well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, with absolute bioavailability of about 90%.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized by the liver, primarily by CYP3A4.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Urinary retention
- Gastric retention
- Uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma
- Severe liver impairment
- Severe renal impairment (with certain CYP3A4 inhibitors)
- Known hypersensitivity to solifenacin succinate or any excipients
Drug Interactions
Other anticholinergic agents
May potentiate anticholinergic side effects.
Cholinergic receptor agonists
May reduce the effect of cholinergic agonists.
Drugs that prolong QT interval
Caution advised due to potential for QT prolongation.
CYP3A4 Inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole)
Co-administration with potent CYP3A4 inhibitors increases solifenacin exposure; dose reduction may be necessary.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Overdose symptoms may include severe anticholinergic effects such as urinary retention, constipation, dry mouth, blurred vision, and tachycardia. Treatment is symptomatic and supportive. Gastric lavage and activated charcoal may be considered.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use in pregnancy only if clearly needed and the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk. Excretion into breast milk is unknown; caution advised for nursing mothers.

- No routine lab monitoring typically required. Monitor renal and hepatic function in patients with impairment.
Doctor Notes
- Counsel patients on lifestyle modifications (e.g., fluid intake, bladder training).
- Monitor for signs of urinary retention, especially in patients with bladder outlet obstruction.
- Assess for potential drug interactions, particularly with CYP3A4 inhibitors.

- Take as directed by your doctor.
- Do not stop taking the medication abruptly.
- Report any severe side effects to your doctor.
Missed Dose Advice
If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose.
