Description
Overview of the medicine
Sucal D is a combination medicine containing Sucralfate and Dimethicone. Sucralfate forms a protective barrier over ulcer sites, protecting them from acid, pepsin, and bile salts, thereby promoting healing. Dimethicone is an anti-foaming agent that helps relieve symptoms of gas, bloating, and abdominal discomfort.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
10ml (Sucralfate 1g + Dimethicone 125mg) four times daily, 1 hour before meals and at bedtime.
Elderly
Same as adult dose, but caution in patients with renal impairment.
Renal_impairment
Caution advised in severe renal impairment due to aluminum content in Sucralfate.
How to Take
Shake well before use. Take on an empty stomach, 1 hour before meals and at bedtime.
Mechanism of Action
Sucralfate selectively binds to damaged gastric and duodenal mucosa, forming a protective barrier. It also inhibits the action of pepsin, absorbs bile salts, and stimulates prostaglandin synthesis. Dimethicone lowers the surface tension of gas bubbles in the gastrointestinal tract, causing them to coalesce and be more easily expelled.
Pharmacokinetics

Sucralfate: 1 hour (for protective effect)
