Description
Overview of the medicine
Sulinzen 200 mg Tablet is a medication primarily used to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and lower fever. It belongs to the class of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and works by blocking the production of certain natural substances in the body that cause inflammation and pain.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
The usual adult dose is 200 mg once daily, or 100 mg twice daily, as directed by a physician. Max daily dose: 400 mg.
Elderly
Elderly patients should use with caution, usually starting at a lower dose (e.g., 100 mg once daily) and titrated based on response and tolerability, due to increased risk of side effects.
Renal_impairment
For patients with mild to moderate renal impairment, dose adjustment may be necessary. Not recommended for severe renal impairment (CrCl < 30 mL/min).
How to Take
Take the tablet orally with water, preferably after a meal to minimize gastrointestinal upset. Do not chew or crush the tablet.
Mechanism of Action
Sulinzen acts by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, primarily COX-2, which are responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins are lipid compounds that mediate inflammation, pain, and fever. By reducing prostaglandin levels, Sulinzen alleviates these symptoms.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within 30-60 minutes for analgesic effect.
Excretion
Mainly excreted in urine (approximately 65%) and feces (approximately 35%) as metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 4-8 hours.
Absorption
Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract; peak plasma concentrations reached within 1-3 hours.
Metabolism
Primarily hepatic metabolism, extensively metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes (e.g., CYP2C9).
