Description
Overview of the medicine
T-Drop is an ophthalmic solution used to relieve redness of the eye due to minor eye irritations. It acts as a vasoconstrictor to reduce conjunctival hyperemia.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
Instill 1 or 2 drops in the affected eye(s) up to 4 times a day.
Elderly
Same as adult dosage. No specific adjustment required.
Renal_impairment
No specific dosage adjustment required due to minimal systemic absorption.
How to Take
For ophthalmic use only. Tilt head back, pull down lower eyelid to form a pouch, and instill drops. Do not touch dropper tip to any surface to avoid contamination.
Mechanism of Action
Tetrahydrozoline acts as an alpha-adrenergic agonist, causing vasoconstriction in the conjunctival blood vessels, thereby reducing redness and swelling.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Within minutes (typically 1-5 minutes).
Excretion
Systemic excretion is negligible. Any absorbed drug is likely excreted renally.
Half life
Not well-defined for topical ophthalmic use due to minimal systemic absorption.
Absorption
Minimal systemic absorption when applied topically to the eye. Local absorption occurs through the conjunctival sac.
Metabolism
Not significantly metabolized systemically following topical ophthalmic application.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to tetrahydrozoline or any component of the formulation.
- Patients with narrow-angle glaucoma or predisposition to it.
Drug Interactions
MAO inhibitors
May cause hypertensive crisis if absorbed systemically (rare with proper topical use).
Tricyclic antidepressants
Concurrent use may potentiate the pressor effects of sympathomimetic agents.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Protect from light. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Systemic overdose is rare with topical application but can cause central nervous system depression, marked sedation, and coma, especially in infants or if ingested orally. Accidental ingestion by children can be serious.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use with caution. Consult a doctor before use if pregnant or breastfeeding. Minimal systemic absorption suggests low risk, but clinical data is limited.

- Not typically required for topical ophthalmic use.
Doctor Notes
- Advise patients on the importance of not exceeding the recommended dose and duration (max 72 hours) to avoid rebound hyperemia.
- Caution in patients with cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or known sensitivity to adrenergic drugs, as systemic absorption, though minimal, can occur.
- Counsel patients to remove contact lenses before application.
Patient Guidelines
- Do not use for more than 72 hours without consulting a doctor.
- Remove contact lenses before use and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting.
- If eye pain, changes in vision, continued redness or irritation occur, or if the condition worsens or persists, discontinue use and consult a doctor.

Missed Dose Advice
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose.
