Overview of the medicine
Tamicol 75 mg Syrup is an antitussive medication used to relieve dry, unproductive cough. It works by suppressing the cough reflex in the brain.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
10-15 mL (75-112.5 mg) every 6-8 hours as needed. Maximum 4 doses in 24 hours.
Elderly
Same as adult dose, but caution is advised in patients with hepatic or renal impairment.
Renal_impairment
Dosage reduction may be necessary; consult a physician.
How to Take
Oral use. Take with or without food. Use measuring spoon/cup provided.
Mechanism of Action
Tamicus Hydrochloride acts centrally on the cough center in the medulla oblongata to elevate the cough threshold, thereby suppressing the cough reflex.

Mainly excreted in urine as unchanged drug and metabolites.

Approximately 2-4 hours, variable.

Rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.

Side Effects
Contraindications
- •Hypersensitivity to Tamicus Hydrochloride or any component of the syrup.
- •Concomitant use with MAO inhibitors or within 14 days of stopping MAO inhibitors.
- •Severe respiratory depression or asthma attacks.
Drug Interactions
MAO Inhibitors
Increased risk of serotonergic syndrome (e.g., hyperpyrexia, muscle rigidity, mental status changes). Avoid concomitant use.
CNS Depressants (e.g., alcohol, sedatives)
May enhance CNS depressant effects. Use with caution.
CYP2D6 Inhibitors (e.g., fluoxetine, paroxetine)
May increase Tamicus Hydrochloride plasma concentrations and adverse effects.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, ataxia, nystagmus, and respiratory depression. Management is supportive; gastric lavage or activated charcoal may be considered.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use in pregnancy only if clearly needed and the benefit outweighs the risk. Excreted in breast milk; caution advised during lactation.
