Overview of the medicine
Tamsulosin is an alpha1-adrenoceptor antagonist used for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) to improve urine flow and reduce symptoms.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
0.4 mg once daily, taken approximately 30 minutes after the same meal each day.
Elderly
No dosage adjustment is generally required.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment is generally required for mild to moderate impairment. Use with caution in severe impairment.
How to Take
Orally, once daily after a meal. Swallow whole; do not crush, chew, or open the capsule.
Mechanism of Action
Selectively blocks alpha1A and alpha1D adrenoceptors in the prostate, bladder neck, and urethra, leading to relaxation of smooth muscle and improved urine flow.
