Description
Overview of the medicine
Tamurin 0.4 mg Capsule contains Tamsulosin, an alpha-blocker used to treat the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men. It helps to relax the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate.
Uses & Indications
Dosage
Adults
0.4 mg orally once daily, approximately 30 minutes after the same meal each day.
Elderly
No specific dose adjustment is required for elderly patients.
Renal_impairment
No dosage adjustment is necessary for patients with mild to moderate renal impairment. Use with caution in severe renal impairment.
How to Take
Take orally, once daily, approximately 30 minutes after the same meal each day. Swallow the capsule whole; do not crush, chew, or open.
Mechanism of Action
Tamsulosin selectively blocks alpha-1A and alpha-1D adrenergic receptors in the prostate, prostatic capsule, bladder neck, and prostatic urethra. This blockade causes relaxation of the smooth muscles in these areas, leading to an improvement in urine flow rate and reduction in BPH symptoms.
Pharmacokinetics
Onset
Clinical improvement often seen within 1-2 weeks, full effect in 2-4 weeks.
Excretion
Mainly excreted in urine, primarily as metabolites.
Half life
Approximately 9-15 hours.
Absorption
Well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, nearly 90%.
Metabolism
Extensively metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes in the liver, primarily CYP3A4 and CYP2D6.
Side Effects
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Tamsulosin or any component of the formulation
- History of orthostatic hypotension
- Severe hepatic impairment
Drug Interactions
Other alpha-adrenergic blocking agents
Concomitant use may lead to additive hypotensive effects.
Strong CYP2D6 inhibitors (e.g., Paroxetine)
May increase Tamsulosin exposure.
PDE5 inhibitors (e.g., Sildenafil, Tadalafil)
Concomitant use may lead to additive hypotensive effects.
Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., Ketoconazole)
May increase Tamsulosin exposure, leading to increased risk of hypotension.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
Overdose
Overdose may lead to severe hypotensive effects. Management includes supportive measures, such as lying down the patient and, if necessary, administering vasopressors and/or intravenous fluids. Blood pressure and heart rate should be monitored.
